Christmas Songs for Kids is the latest children’s app from Touchzing Media. It is free to download with We Wish You a Merry Christmas included for free. 2 more songs, Jingle Bells and Twelve Days of Christmas, are available for a single in-app purchase currently $1.99. Each of the songs can be enjoyed 2 ways – with music and singing or Karaoke style with just music. With both modes the lyrics are on the screen with word highlighting as it is sung. The songs are sung nice and clearly. The graphics are bright, colorful, cartoons with animations and interactive elements.
The in-app purchase, appstore links and social media links are behind a parental gate, but the question to unlock it is kindergarten-level math e.g. 3+2, so I would like this made harder.
We Wish You a Merry Christmas
Sing-a-long as a merry, dancing, Santa delivers Christmas presents and children and animals tuck into their figgy pudding.
Santa and a group of happy friends enjoy classic sleigh rides and dancing, skating, snowboarding and playing in the snow. It includes both the well-known first verse of Jingle Bells and the less well-known second verse.
12 Days of Christmas
This is the longest of the three songs and includes all twelve verses. The developers had some fun with the illustrations in this version of the classic song – the swans are a-swimming in a swimming pool with rubber rings, snorkels and pool toys; the calling birds use telephones and the Geese are a-laying on sunbeds!
This is a fun an engaging introduction for young children to three classic Christmas songs. It is best suited to toddlers, preschool and early elementary school-age children as older children may find the illustration-style a little young for them. It has a lot of interactive elements that young children will enjoy, but it would be nice to have the option to switch these off in settings so that you could have a “play” mode to let children discover all the interactions, and a “singing” mode without distractions. I would like to see some improvements in the word highlighting, it is a scrolling type highlighting rather than word by word, and often seems to be lagging a little and periodically seems to stop then catch up a whole line at once.
It is definitely worth downloading for the free song, and if your child enjoys it then you can consider paying to unlock the other songs. A fun way to get young children in the Christmas spirit.
